Fall River is a city of 92,000, located approximately 18 miles east of I-95 on I-195. The city is known throughout the region as a factory outlet mecca, but there’s far more to see and do in Fall River than meets the eye!

The Best Western Fall River (at the airport) is a very nice, clean, comfortable hotel that I personally recommend. The Quality Inn (Wilber Avenue) and Motel Somerset (I-195, exit 4) are also excellent establishments that I would recommend to anyone staying in the area.

I-195, exit 7 (Portsmouth Avenue) has several fast food restaurants. For something a little less “fast” try The Eagle Restaurant, downtown at 35 North Main Street. For great seafood, visit LePage’s Seafood Restaurant and Market (I-195, exit 9). Casual dress and generous portions are their trademark! I personally recommend T.A. Restaurant (downtown at 408 South Main Street). They feature Portuguese cuisine as well as American food.

Outlet shopping is the buzzword here. Fall River’s factory outlets are concentrated on Jefferson and Quarry Streets directly off I-195, exit 8. Visit the Battleship Massachusetts, the Destroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., attack sub USS Lionfish and several World War II PT boats (I-195, exit 5). The Marine Museum (70 Water Street) has an excellent Titanic exhibit as well as displays on the history of steam transportation.

Fall River is accessable from I-95 to I-195. I-195 runs directly through the city east-west. MA Route 24 runs north-south with access to points throughout the city.

Fall River’s Battleship Cove
Battleship Cove, home of Battleship Massachusetts and her sister ships, is open daily, year round, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors get their hands on history as they work the 40mm guns aboard Battleship Massachusetts, explore the decks aboard Destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., dodge torpedoes aboard Submarine Lionfish, and see the only two PT boats on public display in the world.

Centrally located in Southeastern Massachusetts, Taunton is about 35 miles south of Boston, 30 miles northwest of Cape Cod, 30 miles east of Providence Rhode Island, and 20 miles north of New Bedford. The largest Massachusetts city in land area, Taunton boasts approx. 50 square miles with a population at 57,600. Three state routes pass through the center of the city; Route 44, Route 138, and Route 140. Also, I-495, I-95, and Highway Route 24 are just minutes away. Taunton has three nicknames; ‘City of Firsts’- 1st Woman Proprietor, 1st to raise the Liberty & Union Flag 1774, and 1st Silver Manufacturer ‘The Silver City- Had three major Silver Manufacturing Plants – 1 remaining Christmas City – For decades the community lit up the Taunton green at the annual “Lights On” ceremony.

Holiday Inn in the Myles Standish Industrial park is located just off I-495. The Days Inn Raynham is located about 2 miles from the center of town.

Try these local favorites… Benjamin’s Restaurant and Gillian’s are located on Bay Street… Silver’s Restaurant, located at the Holiday Inn… Curley’s Pub on Winthrop Street… Henry’s Root Beer on Broadway. Also check out the Galleria Mall Restaurants: Bertucci’s, Ground Roun and Ruby Tuesdays.

Historical Places; City Hall, Old Colony Historical Society, Bristol County Courthouse, First Parish Church, Taunton Green, Winery in Raynham, Cape Cod only 30 min away, New Bedford whaling and historical shipping docks.
